Farr and Away

Washington Old Time Fiddlers Contest, February 2005

Farr and Away is an acoustic (mostly) Western Swing band that is heavily influenced by the Farr Bros, Hugh & Karl, two of the original members of the Sons of the Pioneers. Our song list consists of a number of standards from the thirties and forties, tunes we’ve learned from Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys, Milton Brown & His Musical Brownies and of course fiddle tunes from Hugh Farr.

We like to swing. We really don’t care where it comes from as long as it swings.

Farr and Away is based in the state of Washington and we play mostly festivals such as Northwest Folklife (Seattle), Yakima Folklife (Yakima), and Tumbleweed (Richland). We also play private parties, we have played at Basin Summer Sounds (Ephrata), the annual Soap Lake Salmon BBQ, and Farmers’ Markets at Kingston and Ephrata.

We are in the process of lining up gigs for the 2006 summer season as we speak. We can do gigs that are primarily Western Swing/classic country or gigs that lean more towards fiddle music which feature the Hugh Farr style, or we can do gigs that are mixture of the above and with an emphasis on swing.
